Power of Sport, Culture & Legacy Tee - YOUTH
Short sleeves shirt with artwork from local Mi'kmaq artist Sophie Amaral.
Halifax Tides commissioned this original artwork by Sophie Amaral to celebrate the power of sport, culture and honouring Erin McLeod’s contributions to Canadian Soccer. A portion of proceeds from the sale of this limited t-shirt will be donated to the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre, supporting its ongoing work in the community.
The artwork depicts an Indigenous mother and daughter on their way to the daughter’s soccer game. The girl’s kit mirrors the Halifax Tides’ colours, while her mother wears a traditional ribbon skirt designed in the same palette. The imagery highlights how soccer transcends cultural boundaries, uniting people through a shared love of the game. The goalkeeper pays tribute to Tides’ keeper Erin McLeod, honouring her remarkable career and contributions to the Tides in our inaugural season. The moon at the top echoes our logo, while the eight-pointed star at the bottom draws from a significant Mi’kmaq motif, symbolizing heritage and connection.
Sophie Amaral is an 18-year-old Mi’kmaq artist and athlete from Miawpukek First Nation in Conne River, Newfoundland, raised in Nova Scotia. She’s currently in her second year at OCAD University, where she continues to develop her creative practice. A lifelong soccer player, Sophie represented Team Nova Scotia at the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG).
